Sydney Thunder optimistic about Warner's BBL return

General manager Trent Copeland is hopeful the Australia opener will be fit

Sydney Thunder general manager Trent Copeland is confident that David Warner will be fit to play in the Big Bash League (BBL) this season.

Warner is currently recovering from a groin injury that he sustained during Australia's tour of India in September.

Copeland said that Warner is making good progress in his recovery and that he is expected to be available for selection for the Thunder's first game of the season on December 5.

"David is tracking really well in his recovery," Copeland said.

"He's been doing a lot of running and he's starting to bat again.

"We're confident that he'll be fit to play in the BBL this season."

Warner has a history of success in the BBL, having scored over 2,000 runs in the competition.

He was the leading run-scorer in the BBL in 2017-18 and 2019-20.

The Thunder will be hoping that Warner can continue his good form in the BBL this season and help them win their first title since 2015-16.
